BRAVERY AWARDS INVESTITURE
Three people of the Northern Territory will be presented with bravery awards of The Royal Humane Society of Australasia
On Thursday 17 February 2022

At Government House, Darwin
The Society awards – Two Silver Medals and One Bronze Medal will be presented by Her Honour the Honourable Vicki O’Halloran AO, Administrator of the Northern Territory.
Awards recognise rescues involving:
- A man on the edge of a cliff at Bicentennial Park, Darwin
- An armed assailant in Bourke Street, Melbourne

In going to the rescue of a man on the edge of a cliff in Bicentennial Park, Darwin NT on 11 June 2019.
At 7.00pm a man had jumped over a fence and was standing on an outcropped rock on the cliff edge that had a 10m fall onto the rocky shore-line below.
SC Turner and SC Farrand arrived at the scene and commenced negotiations with the man and at about 8.30pm they were eventually able to climb over the fence and sit close to the man and wrap a blanket around him.
Negotiations continued until 3.00am when the man made a move towards the cliff edge. SC Turner grabbed the man around the waist and SC Farrand also grabbed the man as he was struggling and trying to get out of SC Turner’s hold. SC Turner had to try and brace his foot on a small rock that was sticking out of the ground to avoid potentially being pulled over the cliff.
Both police officers were able to maintain their grip on the man until two other police officers jumped over the fence to assist.

3. VITTORIO ANGELO PADOVAN, aged 54 years, of Leanyer, NT
In going to the rescue of a man from a terrorist attack in Bourke Street, Melbourne, Vic on 9 November 2018.
At 4.12pm a man ignited LPG gas bottles in his car causing an explosion. He alighted from the burning vehicle with a knife and stabbed a man in the head.
Shortly afterwards Mr Padovan approached the injured man and provided first-aid to help stem the bleeding.
Shortly afterwards the man was shot by police officers.
Seventeen other people were also recognised for their bravery in regard to this incident and will be presented with their awards in Victoria.
