Annual Bravery Awards Presentation – 21 February 2023

THE ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY OF AUSTRALASIA
ANNUAL BRAVERY AWARDS PRESENTATION

Eight Western Australians were presented with bravery awards of The Royal Humane Society of Australasia by

His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM,
Governor Western Australia,
at an Investiture Ceremony at Government House, Perth
on Tuesday 21 February 2023

The following Society awards were presented – 1 Silver Medal, 3 Bronze Medals, and 4 Certificates of Merit

Awards recognized rescues from:

  • a shark attack
  • car accidents
  • bridge rescue
  • drowning

His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM addressed the recipients, friends and guests before presenting the Bravery Awards to the worthy recipients, thanking them for their extraordinary acts of courage and their care for others.

“There is so much to celebrate here today and so much pride in this room, as there should be.”

“Each one of you found yourself thrust into extraordinary life-or-death circumstances where - without hesitation - you set aside your own wellbeing and safety to help another.”

In each case there was no forewarning, no chance to prepare, no hesitation – there was simply courage.

There is no simple answer as to why the eight of you stepped up, when perhaps others may not, but know this. There are many, many people in our community – not least the people you saved and their loved ones – who are most grateful that you did.

“Congratulations on the honours being bestowed on you all. It is a privilege to present them to you.”
